Dr Julianne Moss
AARE President 2014 – 2015

Welcome to the website of the 2014 International Conference of the Australian Association for Research in Education (AARE). This year we welcome a partnership with our colleagues from the New Zealand Association for Research in Education (NZARE).

AARE and NZARE are national associations for fostering educational research in Australia and New Zealand and through this conference we will facilitate contact between educational researchers and support the development of high quality educational research.

The conference will be held at the Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane from Sunday 30 to Thursday 4 December.

Brisbane is a foot friendly city and walking is easy around a series of paths and bridges connecting the city centre to popular areas such as South Bank and many of the urban villages that line the Brisbane River. These areas host some of the most spectacular shopping and eateries. Brisbane is also just a drive from the Gold Coast with the beautiful beaches and Theme Parks.

We warmly invite all education researchers and educators from Australia, New Zealand, the Asia-Pacific and around the world to join us in Brisbane for a very significant and unique conference event.

Liz Gordon
President, NZARE

The New Zealand Association for Research in Education is delighted to be joining her sister organisation, the AARE, in hosting the 2014 conference in Brisbane. The NZARE is in a period of significant growth and development. We have been considering how best to meet the diverse needs of our members, and have appointed our first ever paid staff member. Current developments include seminars on various topics, and regional and national professional development seminars on topics such as publishing, ethics, research methods and supporting emerging researchers.

Of particular concern in both countries is the relatively low status of educational research, both in comparison to other areas of research, but also because policymakers have the breathtaking ability to ignore all research in making decisions about educational matters.

We look forward to joining with you to celebrate the work of both our Associations and all our researchers, and to have fun!
